At a time when not many investors were keen to venture outside Colombo, the visionary entrepreneur the late Deshamanya A.Y.S. Gnanam took a bold step to launch Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) Ltd., with his Japanese partners Mitsui Group in the early 1980s in the eastern port city of Trincomalee.
